Village Ithiopia has been involved in many different aspects of the community, by implementing fundraising activities to keep our communities strong. Once the person / company is a positive influence, Village Ithiopia will assist by providing fundraising programs to assist in sustaining, already established, independently-owned businesses. Some of the people / companies that we are proud to be involved with include:
June 10, 2006 Sharty B Production – Mackendy backed by the Kale Band
Live in Concert
October 2006 Power of the Trinity - Assisted in the construction of the Official Embassy of the Power of the Trinity. A Physical, neutral location for Marcus Garveyites, Rastas (red on the top, and red on the bottom)… a location of sovereignty for the Diaspora
November 2006 Lion Heights Soccer Club – People-to-people support through providing accommodation for a short period of time, in order to stabilize and launch a self-reliant soccer project
June 2007 Mad Cash Productions – People-to-people support, and financial contribution on the Thierry Project
July 2007 Veronical Welding – Support with the financial contribution towards the purchase of a welding machine from Liquid Air. Financial contribution in the re-instatement of the drivers license of one of its driver, so as to keep the company strong, because of its reliance on this driver for contracts from Montreal to Ottawa.
August 2007 UCS Shipping – People-to-people support in French translation and financial contribution for graphical imagery of the company
August 2007 Xtra Newmedia – Deleting the financial barriers between two companies in the community, to allow the development of a new business relationship
December 2007 Know-ledge I-topia – People-to-people support in numbers and computers
September 2008 Don Sigma – Aided in providing the necessary tools for Don Sigma's business to manifest. Financial support for shelter
April 2008 Community Financial Reservoir – This reservoir will go towards sustaining already established, independently-owned businesses, as well as being made accessible to community crisis that may unpredictably arise. This project will be running for the duration of two months, and will be accepting a minimum donation of $100 from each person or business.
March 2009 Sankofa Bookstore – Assisted in establishing an Afrocentric bookstore in the heart of Ottawa. Including in the placing orders, mobile book displays, inventory and general runnings of the company.
May 2009 Video Lectures – Hosted the viewing and discussion of lectures and documentaries every other Friday.
October 2009 Empress Circle – Initiated an Empress Circle along side with Lystra. The Empress Circle was created with the intention of seeing the Empresses in our community come together and show unity. To unite and make each other stronger. We have a goal to establish on-going programs, that the community knows it can rely on, and that they can benefit from. too many times wombmen, and thus their family, struggle in silence. It is time for that to stop, and it is time for us to rally our resources together and make things easier for each other.
November 2009 Food Program – The aim of this program is to provide lower income people/families of the regions with a nutritious food supplement. We have a weekly soup kitchen, as well; we distribute food to these people/families to add on to their weekly groceries. We receive weekly contributions of organic vegetables, and breads
January 2010 Africa Unite Newspaper – Aid in the editing of Africa Unite Newspaper, a local newspaper with the purpose to highlight being self-aware, and provides the reader with knowledgeable facts pertaining to their life, with no discrimination or bias propaganda just love and care for all readers
April 2010 VILLAGE Presents AFRICA UNITE SHOWCASE –A family orientated fundraiser, featuring local and regional artists, including the Writer & Performer of the One Ooman Story: Blood Claat - D'bi Young Anitafrika will be performing dub-poetry. We will also be featuring Mackendy, Empress Nyiringango, Diction, backed by Roots Movement Band. There will also be a D.A.A.V. ART EXHIBIT by Chikonzera Chazunguza of Zimbabwe. Sankofa Afro-Centric Bookstore will also be present along side with Crafts from Malichi Hi-Fi Publishing. Food and Refreshments will also be available. The Doors open at 6:00pm, and the show is from 6:30pm - 11:00pm, at the Bronson Center, 211 Bronson. Tickets are $15 in advance / $20 at the door, $7 for children under 12.
